The Sole Practitioners Group (SPG) is a not-for-profit representative body and independent stakeholder group, providing professional and pastoral support, training and regulatory representation on behalf of all Sole Practitioner solicitors in England and Wales.
Sole practitioner firms represent over one-third of all solicitor firms in the UK.
Our mission statement is:
to inspire, to promote and to lead.
Membership is completely free of charge and whether you are just thinking of starting-up your own practice, already running your practice or even thinking of selling, merging or closing down your practice, we can help.
Our activities include:
- Local groups arrange talks, social events, and other means by which sole practitioners can meet each other and this give practitioners the opportunity to exchange experiences, particularly about the management of their practices and provide valuable social contact.
- The Group has organised Annual Conferences for the past 26 years which have become increasingly successful. These are held both in the UK and abroad. Attendees have the opportunity to hear from speakers including members of The Law Society, SRA and Legal Ombudsman, in addition to workshops and lectures from guest speakers.
- The Group has published Solo, a quarterly Journal since 1996 and, again, sole practitioners are increasingly seeing the value of a journal, which unlike other legal journals, is focussed on their interests. SOLO is effective in creating a sense of community amongst sole practitioners, who more than other practitioners can feel particularly isolated.
- The Group has its own website where members can find details of all the members of the Executive Committee and other information about the Group and its activities as well as items of legal interest. The website is regularly updated with news, details of events and regulatory developments.
